Against India, Madushanka finished his spell with five wickets despite conceding 80 runs in ten overs. After being hit for a boundary off the opening delivery of the innings, the left-arm bowler gave Sri Lanka a fantastic start by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma with the second ball of the innings.

After Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were dismissed, they put together a 189-run partnership for the second wicket, with both batsmen reaching fifty. As the two batters approached their respective hundreds, Madushanka was introduced into the attack.

But Madushanka had other ideas. In the 30th over, the youthful opener nicked a short delivery outside off straight to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis, sending Gill packing. Madushanka got the big wicket of Kohli in his very next over, tricking him with a slow cutter and making him drive right into Pathum Nissanka’s hands at short cover.

With a four-wicket haul, Madushanka removed the hard-hitting Suryakumar Yadav in the 42nd over. In the 48th over, he proceeded to finish with five wickets by dismissing the freely flowing Shreyas Iyer. Madushanka scored 82 runs off 56 balls, but after being hammered by two consecutive sixes in the opening two balls of his last over, he recovered to dismiss Shreyas.

With his assistance, Sri Lanka was able to hold India to 357 for 8 in 50 overs.
