During Wednesday’s third Test match in Sydney, Aamer Jamal set a record for the greatest score by a Pakistani hitter at No. 9 in Australia.
As his team was down to seven for 220 when Jamal came in to bat, he scored 82 runs in 97 deliveries to assist Pakistan reach a valiant first-inning total of 313 runs. In his journey to his first Test half-century, he struck four sixes and nine fours. Jamal surpassed Wasim Bari’s previous record, which he had set in 1972 in Adelaide with 72 runs off 113 deliveries.
Jamal’s knock was the third-highest in Test history for a Pakistani No. 9 batter. The record was set by Asif Iqbal in 1967 at The Oval when he scored a century (146 off 244) against England at the position.
Jamal shared an 86-run stand for the 10th wicket in Australia with Mir Hamza, who was unbeaten at seven off 43 balls. This was the second-highest partnership between a Pakistani pair in Australia.
